After several decades, UP student through John Gabriel Pelias proved that poverty is not a hindrance to success and making history. Pelias will be graduating on April 17, 2011 at the most prestigious Philippine University with the highest latin honors - Summa Cum Laude. Reports said that Gabriel obtained a general weighted average of 1.016, the second highest average in the history of UP; next to Exequiel Sevilla - Commerce graduate in the year 1927.
John Gabriel Pelias, a BS Mathematics student was set to deliver the valedictory speech in front of his co-graduates on Sunday.
As stated in his Facebook biography, he strongly believed on Bertrand Russell's quote saying that, “Mathematics may be defined as the subject where we never know what we are talking about, nor whether what we are saying is true.”
He is a fan of Beyonce and Chopins music, loves to write stories and read books. Gabriel likes anime series like Shakugan, Negima, Spongebob and the like which is very evident in his profile picture.
Perhaps, one of the reasons why Pelias obtained this status was, "he is single". (author's opinion)
