Angelina Jolie, Beyonce Show Support to Libyan War Victims

Award-winning American actress Angelina Jolie showed support to the victims and refugees of the Libyan war. She issued statements last March 2, via the United Nations, regarding the deadly political turmoil in the African nations of Libya and the Ivory Coast, or Cote d'Ivoire.

Jolie, a U.N. refugee agency goodwill ambassador, joined the UN agencies to protect civilians displaced by conflict in Libya, including thousands of refugees and asylum seekers still inside or trying to leave the country for neighboring Egypt and Tunisia.

As we witness these newest crises unfold in west and north Africa, it is critical that all parties respect the fundamental right of people in danger to flee to safety—whether civilians caught in conflict in their own country or refugees and asylum seekers caught in new conflicts," Jolie said. "All I'm asking is that civilians be protected, and not targeted or harmed."

Jolie issued her appeal from Afghanistan, where she was meeting with refugees struggling to survive and adjust after years in exile.

Meanwhile, singer American R & B singer Beyonce has sought to distance herself from the tainted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, for whose entourage they both performed at glitzy New Year's eve parties.

They joined Canadian artist Nelly Furtado, who used her Twitter account on Monday to declare she would give away the $1 million she received to perform a 45-minute set in Italy for Gaddafi's family in 2007.

However, Mariah Carey who once performed in Libya, has not yet confirmed if she would also donate her talent fee for the victims of the Libyan war.
