6.1 Magnitude Earthquake hits Metro Manila and Batangas March 25, 2010

A 6.1 magnitude earthquake centered off the Philippine west coast shook the capital Metro Manila  just this afternoon, Thursday, March 25, 2010. The National Disaster Coordinating Council said it had no immediate information on damage or injuries after the quake, which struck at around 1:30 pm. There is also no Tsunami warnings.

Authorities said that the quakes were centered around 100 km (66 miles) west of the city of Batangas, south of Manila.

The earthquake was felt at Intensity 4 in Quezon City and Intensity 3 in the cities of Makati and Mandaluyong.

Based on reports from Lubang island in Mindoro, the earthquake is felt strong but still no damages. Likewise in Batangas, the provincial disaster council reported no damages from the quake.
