Class Suspension October 12, 2011 (Wednesday) in Elementary, HighSchool and College

The Department of Education already suspended preschool, elementary and high school classes [October 12 2011 - Wednesday] in some of the affected areas in Mindanao due to Typhoon Ramon. Quoted from DepEd,
  • "Siargao and Surigao City now on signal no 2. Classes suspended in kindergarten, elementary and high school. Oct 11, 2011.
  • Yes school officials have the discretion to suspend classes when necessary even without storm signals. Thank you.
For the college students, CHED is not announcing the suspension of classes. According to their released memo, the college and universities officials have the discretion in further cancellations.

Most of the preschool, elementary, highschool, colleges and universities suspended their classes Tuesday (September 27, 2011) due to the heavy rains, floods and strong winds brought about by Typhoon Pedring in Luzonwide area.

Earlier today, there are students and parents who are asking already if classes will be suspended tomorrow September 28, 2011(Wednesday). DepEd as of the moment is not making any announcement regarding the class suspension. But students can always refer to the guidelines of DepEd and CHED.

Update from DepEd:

Work in government offices are already suspended. Usec.Abigail Valte just announced the suspension of work in all government offices today, Sept. 27, per recommendation of NDRRMC.

Region IVA: Per RD Dino, the entire Region 4A has suspended classes from preschool to HS today.

CALABARZON: Classes from kinder to HS have been suspended in the entire CALABARZON region today, Sept 27.

BATANGAS: Classes in kinder, elem, HS are also suspended in Dasmarinas City, Noveleta and Batangas City today, Sept 27.


OCCIDENTAL MINDORO: No classes in preschool to HS in Occidental Mindoro today due to flooding.

LAGUNA: Classes in preschool to HS are suspended in San Pablo, Laguna.

RIZAL: There will be no classes in the entire Rizal Province from preschool to HS today.

Gov Jonvic Remulla has announced suspension of classes from preschool to HS in the entire Cavite province.

Update: DepEd said that if the storm warning signal in Nueva Ecija doesn't change until tomorrow, classes from preschool to highschool will be suspended. (Read more updates regarding class suspension tomorrow here)

The Department of Education made an announcement regarding class suspension on September 27 2011 (Tuesday) in preschool, elementary and highschool classes. They said that all classes under DepEd both in public and private schools will be suspended due to the heavy rains, floods and strong winds brought about by the Typhoon Pedring  (Read the latest update about Typhoon Pedring from PAG-ASA). Quoted from their statements:

"Classes in NCR will remain suspended tomorrow, Sept 27, for kinder, elementary and high school, for both private and public schools."

"ISABELA, QUIRINO, N.VIZCAYA & CAGAYAN: Classes in kinder, elementary and H.S. are suspended tomorrow, Sept 27."

"Antipolo, Rizal: Classes will remain suspended in Kindergarten, Elem & HS tom, Sept 27, as announced by City Mayor."

Class Suspension August 4, 2011 (Thursday) in Elementary, Highschool and College?

Second Update: DepEd announced that no suspension of classes today. Classes at all levels in NCR will be resumed August 4, 2011.

Fresh from the suspension of classes which were announced by Department of Education (DepEd) on Wednesday due to heavy rains and floods; students from preschool, elementary, highschool (secondary) and college (tertiary) levels from NCR and other areas are asking if classes will be suspended on August 4, 2011 (Thursday) in different levels.

Quoted from DepEd,

"Superintendents, principals and LGUs may suspend classes if the situation warrants it. Parents can decide whether to send their children to school or not."

As of this writing, the Department of Education (DepEd) is not yet releasing class suspension notices.

Meanwhile, CHED said that the jurisdiction for cancellation of classes on tertiary levels depends on the college or university officials.

Class Suspension August 3, 2011 in Elementary, Highschool and College due to Heavy Rains and Floods

Fifth Update: DepEd announced that preschool, elementary and secondary classes in Dagupan and Pangasinan are also suspended.

Fourth Update: All classes in National Capital Region (NCR) will be suspended starting 12 noon, DepED said. This is after PAGASA predicts that a moderate to heavy rainfall will be experienced throughout the day.

"Taal Batangas Municipal Mayor declared suspension of classes in the afternoon due to heavy rains being experienced at the moment."

"Upon consultation w/ the office of Mayor Aldrin San Pedro of Multinlupa, afternoon classes are suspended due to heavy rains."

Third Update:  Quoted from DepEd,

"Region 1: San Carlos City - due to continuous rainfall, the Provincial Government suspended classes from Kinder to Highschool today, Aug 3."

"CALABARZON: Regular classes resume in all levels today, August 3."

"REGION 3: Regular classes today except for the following still flooded schools in Pampanga: Macabebe West Dist - San Esteban ES, Consuelo ES, Sta.Maria ES, San Rafael ES, Sto Nino ES, Dalayap, Dalan, Baliti ES, Castuli, Sta Lutgarda, SanJuan, Lolu Sapang Malalam, Sitio Mindanao. Macabebe East district - Caduag Tete ES, San Isidro ES, SanGabriel, San Roque, Sta.Rita Telacsan, Masantol San Isidro ES and Sapang Kawayan ES."

Second Update: No Class Suspension. As of 4:00 AM, DepEd announced that classes at all levels (private and public) will be resumed today (August 3, 2011) in National Capital Region (NCR). This is after PAGASA predicted that the amount of rainfall today will only be half of yesterday's rain volume.

Update: Class suspension will be announced by DepEd tomorrow, August 3 2011 (4:00 AM).

Students and parents are asking if classes in elementary, secondary (highschool) and college schools on August 3, 2011 (Wednesday) are still suspended due to rains and scattered floods brought about by the Southwest Monsoon.

As of this writing, the Department of Education (DepEd) is not yet announcing any public or private schools or places where preschool, elementary and secondary classes will be suspended.

On August 2 2011 (Tuesday), the Malacanang Palace suspended National Capital Region (NCR) classes and government work due to heavy rains and scattered floods.

Meanwhile, class suspension for college levels (according to CHED) depends on the school or university officials.

Class Suspension August 2, 2011 in Elementary, Highschool and College

3rd Update: Executive Secretary Paquito "Jojo" Ochoa of Malacanang suspended classes and government work in National Capital Region (NCR) starting 1:00 PM, August 2, 2011 due to the heavy rains and floods in many areas in NCR.

The announcement was tweeted by Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda through his Twitter account.

2nd Update: The following universities and colleges also suspended their classes (as per ABS-CBN report).

Update: Mayor of Cainta, Rizal suspended classes at 9:00 AM today, August 2 (a report from DepEd)

Several colleges and universities also suspended their classes due to the heavy rains brought about by the southwest monsoon. These include:

DepEd also suspended the classes from preschool to highschool in National Capital Region dated August 2, 2011.

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced that classes in various areas in Luzon will be suspended August 2, 2011 due to heavy rains brought about by the Southwest Monsoon. Class suspension are announced in some of the elementary and secondary (highschool) schools in Luzon.

NCR: Because of continuous rains and PAGASA's prediction of heavy rainfall, classes are suspended in Kinder, Elem and HS today, August 2.

Class Suspension July 28, 2011 (Thursday) due to Typhoon Juaning in Elementary, Highschool and Colleges

4rd Update: Quoted from the announcement of DepEd via Twitter account. Here are the announcements regarding class suspension.

CAR: Only kindergarten classes suspended in Abra today, July 28.

Region 2: All classes suspended in Kindergarten only.

Region 1: Due to Storm Signal No. 1, classes in Kinder are automatically suspended in Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, and La Union.

Region 5: Classes remain suspended from Kinder to HS in the divisions of Albay & the city divisions of Tabaco, Ligao & Legazpi.

Kindergarten classes are automatically suspended in areas under signal number 1.

CALABARZON will resume classes today except in Rosario, Cavite where classes remain suspended as declared by Mayor Ricafrente.

Region 3: No classes in kindergarten. Other levels upon the discretion of school heads/LGUs.

NCR will resume classes today, July 28, except Tonsuya Elementary School in Malabon, classes remain
suspended from kinder to grade 2 only.

Department of Education said that classes in all levels will be resumed in Region 5 today (July 28, 2011) except in Albay.

NCR class suspensions, according to DepEd, will be announced after the release of PAGASA's 4:00 am weather bulletin tomorrow. The department also said that class suspensions are made in agreement with Chief Executives of local government units. (Read the PAGASA latest weather news)

DepEd Undersecretary Tonisito Umali said that except for Rosario Cavite, suspension of classes in pre-school, elementary and highschool in affected areas will be announced tomorrow July 28, 2011 at 4:00 AM (interview by DZMM).

Mayor Ricafrente of Rosario, Cavite through the Department of Education (DepEd) declared suspension of classes in preschool, elementary and highschool tomorrow (July 28, 2011) because of flooded areas.

Most of the preschool, elementary, highschool/secondary and tertiary classes were suspended on July 27, 2011 (Wednesday) due to the heavy rains brought by typhoon Juaning. Now, the question of students and parents is, "Are classes suspended tomorrow July 28, 2011 (Thursday) at all levels?"

As per guidelines of the Department of Education (DepEd), classes in preschool will be postponed at Signal No. 1 while elementary and secondary classes will be suspended at Signal No. 2.

As reported, Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is not releasing the list of schools to be suspended. The decision on suspension of classes in tertiary/college levels depends on the college or university officials. (View CHED guidelines)

Class Suspension July 27, 2011 Due to Typhoon Juaning in Elementary, Highschool and College - DepEd and CHED

8th Update: Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) announced that Luzon-wide campuses classes will be suspended except for their branch at PUP Calauan, Laguna.

DepEd announced that in Dagupan City Division, classes in kindergarten, elementary and secondary will also be suspended.

As posted by DepEd in their Twitter account, "Occidental Mindoro: Classes suspended in kindergarten, elementary and secondary today, July 27."

Earlier, Bulacan State University also suspended their classes in all levels, a report from DZMM.

Governor ER Ejercito of Laguna announced that all classes in Laguna will also be suspended at all levels (via DZMM).

Executive Secretary Atty. Paquito Ochoa Jr. of Malacanang Palace officially announced through Presidential Spokesman Edwin Lacierda that classes in tertiary/college, secondary/highschool and pre-school levels in the National Capital Region (NCR) will be suspended tomorrow, July 27, 2011 (Wednesday) due to the expected rains to be brought by the current typhoon Juaning.

De La Salle University Dasmarinas Cavite also suspended their classes at all levels dated July 27, 2011. The announcement was made through DZMM 5:00 AM (Wednesday).

Mr. Jingo Badillo of De La Salle University Manila also said that office work and classes at all levels will be postponed tomorrow.


Dr. Ester Ogena, President of Philippine Normal University (PNU) also suspended their classes tomorrow. The message was relayed through an interview at DZMM at 11:32 PM tonight.

Sister Veny Casala of Mary Help of Christian Schools, Canlubang Laguna through a text message with DZMM also suspended their classes tomorrow, July 27, 2011.

University of the Philippines (UP) Manila suspended their classes and office works dated July 27, 2011. This is according to a message sent by Chancellor Dr. Ramon L. Arcadio which was announced at DZBB.

College/tertiary class suspension: PAGASA posted that as per protocol, the DOST-PAGASA has recommended the suspension of classes in the tertiary level tomorrow, July 27, 2011 at NCR to the National Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC/OCD).

In addition to college suspension of classes, PAG-ASA said:

"CHED has devolved the authority to finally decide on class suspension of the tertiary level to the concerned Higher Education Institution Officials."

"Kahit nagrecommend ng suspensyon ang PAGASA-DOST sa NCR, nasa CHED/universities pa rin ang pinal na desisyon" (translation: Even PAGASA-DOST recommended a class suspension to NCR, the final decision still depends on CHED and universities.)

"We are not recommending any suspension of classes in the tertiary level in Central Luzon and Calabarzon area."

In a DZMM interview with DepEd Asst. Secretary Tonisito Umali, preschool, elementary and highschool classes will be officially suspended in NCR, Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon, Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales.

Classes in kindergarten are also suspended in Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon.

CAR: Kindergarten classes suspended in Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mt. Province and Benguet tomorrow, July 27, 2011.

Region 1 will follow automatic suspension guidelines tomorrow depending on the 10pm weather bulletin of PAGASA.

Region 2: No classes in kindergarten only in Isabela, Cagayan, and Nueva Vizcaya.

Batangas City
government through a news advisory announced that all classes will be suspended at all levels tomorrow.

Update: Department of Education (DepEd) announced that classes in pre-school, elementary and highschool at National Capital Region (NCR) and Region 3 both in public and private will be suspended tomorrow (July 27, 2011).

Students from elementary, highschool and college are continuously asking if classes will be suspended on July 27, 2011 (Wednesday) at different schools in Luzon and Visayas due to the reported heavy rains to be brought by typhoon Juaning in the next two days.

As of 7:00 PM dated July 26, 2011, Department of Education (DepEd) said that pre-school and elementary classes are automatically suspended to areas with tropical signal storm no. 1 while classes until highschool level will be postponed at signal no. 2.

According to reports, DepEd will release the list of schools with class suspension tomorrow (July 27, 2011) at 10:00 PM today.

The Department of Education set the rules on the suspension of classes to keep parents aware and students danger-free in cases of typhoons and other calamities.

Classes in pre-school level in all public and private schools will be automatically suspended with storm number 1.

Classes in pre-school, elementary and high school in all public and private schools will be automatically suspended with storm signal number 2.

Classes in all levels are automatically suspended with storm signal number 3.

All travel and outdoor activities are cancelled with storm signal number 4.

In the absence of typhoon signal warnings from PAGASA, localized suspension or cancellation of classes in both public and private elementary and secondary schools may be implemented by the school principal.

Likewise, the schools division superintendent shall decide on the suspension of classes if such covers the entire division.

Parents wishing to ascertain whether or not to send their children to school should check for media advisories coming from PAGASA, DepED, Calamity, Disaster and Fire Control (CDFC) groups, Local Disaster Coordinating Council (LDCC) and the Local Governments Units (LGUs).

In the absence of official storm warnings, parents have the ultimate responsibility for determining whether their children should go to school.

The required number of school days for the school year shall be considered especially in holding make-up classes to offset the days when classes are suspended.

Make-up classes shall be held on Saturdays or on weekdays beyond the originally-set school calendar in both public and private schools.
